Tour Plan
Arise early for the drive to Erfoud with a stop in Ifrane, an alpine city known for its beautiful park and its famous sky resort; continue your drive to Midelt, a town located between the Middle Atlas and High Atlas Mountains, and stop for lunch.
After lunch, start crossing the beautiful fertile valleys of Ziz and Tafilalet. Stop in Erfoud and visit a marble center where 500 million year old fossils are extracted, polished and exported on the globe. Drive into the Sahara Desert to Merzouga, the site of the Merzouga Dunes, the highest in Africa and one of the filming sites for Lawrence of Arabia. Take an optional camel trek to watch the sun set behind the Sahara dunes. Camp overnight in a nomad tent, furnished inside with a comfortable clean cot, fresh linens and blankets set on colourful Moroccan carpets.Â

After breakfast, drive to Todra Gorge, passing through the old town of Tinghir with a stop to visit the ruined Glaoui Kasbah. Sheer cliffs rise up dramatically on each side of the narrow corridor that forms the Todra Gorge. Mountain goats and eagles are sometimes seen on the high cliffs. Then drive through the Dades Valley, a spectacularly beautiful area of contrasting colours and terrains, also known as the valley of a thousand Kasbahs. The Dades Gorge is a beautiful example of the intricate and effective irrigation systems needed in this area. The lush green willows, plants and trees sway in the breezes at the bottom of the valley while the sides of the gorge are a barren, stark shade of brick red. The Dades and Todra Gorges provide some of the best seasonal bird watching sites in Morocco, with many types of lark, sand grouse, buzzards, falcon, warblers, finches, and others.Â

After breakfast, Have an optional sight-seeing to the film studios where many famous films were made, such as, Gladiator, the Four Feathers, Romancing the Stone, Cleopatra, the Sheltering Sky, Jewel of the Nile and Lawrence of Arabia, then drive to Ait Ben Haddou, En route, stop to visit the Kasbah, an exceptionally well-preserved site which was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1987. Stop for a mint tea glass with a Berber family in their home.Â
